German automaker Volkswagen, which includes brands like Scania and MAN, has agreed on a partnership with American truck manufacturer Navistar International. Volkswagen will supply engines to Navistar and acquire a 16.6 percent stake in the American company.
This acquisition by the German conglomerate will also positively impact the operations of MOTOR JIKOV GROUP. “For us as a supplier of components for engines of Scania and MAN vehicles, this future partnership will further increase trading volumes. Currently, a plan is underway connected to a new platform of transmissions and engines within VW's Truck & Bus division, which includes the aforementioned brands Scania, MAN, and VW commercial vehicles. This plan anticipates a gradual increase of at least thirty percent in deliveries starting from 2018, in addition to the planned growth in component supplies for the new Scania truck launched at the end of August. Volkswagen's entry into Navistar then signifies another potential rise of approximately thirty percent,” said Tomáš Prášil, Director of Project Management at MOTOR JIKOV Group.
Currently, MOTOR JIKOV Group supplies fewer than 80 parts for engines and gearboxes of the old and new generations of Scania vehicles, and since this year, for MAN vehicles as well, following the utilization and realization of planned synergies in development and component procurement for both manufacturers. The increase in parts production and supply to Navistar will concern approximately 30 parts.
Volkswagen is the largest car manufacturer in Europe and the second largest globally. However, it aims to become a leading player in the global truck market and has previously acquired majority stakes in MAN and Scania. Navistar seeks a partner to assist with the costly development of engines that meet increasingly stringent emission standards. For Volkswagen, Navistar is attractive because it has an extensive network of dealerships across North America.
