The second half of 2015 marked a pivotal period for the Special Machining division at MOTOR JIKOV Strojírenská a.s., as it tackled a series of challenges related to the future restructuring of the division.
“The task was to relocate machining technologies transferred from České Budějovice, such as the new Chiron D 15 W Magnum for machining high-pressure Mitsubishi castings. We also needed to free up space for new projects within the SOV division, including plans to acquire an automated manufacturing cell for machining Scania Retarder and Valve Housing components, which MJS was nominated for at least until the end of 2019,” explained Jiří Slíva, Director of the SOV Division at MOTOR JIKOV Strojírenská a.s.
Securing this nomination amidst fierce competition required offering significant discounts compared to current prices. “This directly necessitated the complete optimization of the manufacturing process for these parts, along with modernizing production through automation and robotics integration into machining and related operations,” added Jiří Slíva.
The next phase of modernization and optimization involves acquiring an ultrasonic multichamber capacity washer—not only for Retarder and Valve Housing parts but also for all aluminum castings. Implementing these new or relocated technologies requires significant changes to the current layout of the production areas at MOTOR JIKOV Strojírenská a.s. in Soběslav. The future layout must accommodate new projects, incorporate advanced technologies, and optimize material flows and utilization of manufacturing space. The initial step was already taken in the second half of 2015 by selling and relocating an unprofitable project—the Air System—freeing approximately 300m2 of space. Subsequent actions involved relocating and selling inefficient and underutilized older manufacturing technologies, thereby freeing additional production areas.
