MOTOR JIKOV Strojírenská a.s. has successfully passed the first certification audit of its Environmental Management System (EMS) according to the international standard ČSN EN ISO 14001.
“In practice, this means the company had to establish a policy, integrate the standard's requirements into the management system. We needed to set up additional programs aimed at eliminating potential environmental risks arising from our engineering activities. Compliance with Czech legal requirements in this area is of course mandatory. Furthermore, awareness of environmental protection must be extended not only among our employees but also to other interested parties,” explained Robert Fišer, Quality Systems Director at MOTOR JIKOV Group a.s.
The initial steps toward certification at MOTOR JIKOV Strojírenská a.s. began with the shift from product-based to process-based manufacturing, which involved relocating part of the machining to Soběslav, requiring a restructuring of operations. “Problematic surface treatment technologies were phased out, sections of drainage and catch basins were reconstructed, chemical control systems, waste management, and other factors were improved. Naturally, with this change, key customers also transitioned to MOTOR JIKOV Strojírenská a.s., who now expect their partners to have certified environmental management systems as standard,” stated Robert Fišer.
As part of the MOTOR JIKOV GROUP holding, the first company to implement this system was the MOTOR JIKOV Slévárna’s Pressure Die Casting Division in 2004.
“In the future, we will further develop this system across the entire holding. We will likely focus on related issues such as energy management, where the interests align with reducing consumption and the overall energy intensity of our manufacturing processes, which continues to rise sharply and is likely to continue doing so,” added the Quality Systems Director.
ISO 14001 standards relate to environmental management, which pertains to managing the impact of organizational activities on the environment. It is intended for manufacturers, suppliers, and service providers across all industries. Environmental management reduces the organization’s environmental footprint, resulting in a better environment and an improved company profile.
