Persistent energy savings, reduced CO2 emissions, and a decrease in other pollutants — these are the key benefits of the largest investment project by MOTORU JIKOV Group a.s. for 2021 and 2022. The project involves modernizing the entire electrical distribution system of the MOTOR JIKOV Group manufacturing complex in České Budějovice. The total investment amounts to CZK 24.5 million, with 30 percent funded through a grant from the Operational Programme Enterprise and Innovation for Competitiveness, under the energy savings scheme.
Upon completion, the company is expected to reduce electrical energy losses by up to 65 percent. CO2 emissions will decrease by 291 tons, and there will be a significant reduction in SO2, NOx, and CO emissions.
“Electricity supply, primarily driven by the technological consumption of manufacturing equipment within the industrial site, is currently ensured by an outdated distribution system with lower efficiency. The proposed modernization of the electrical distribution system will enhance overall energy system efficiency and improve the reliability of electricity supply. The projected savings are achieved by increasing the energy efficiency of the original 22/0.4 kV transformers at their rated load,” explained Tomáš Prášil, Director of Project Management and Strategic Purchasing at MOTORU JIKOV Group a.s.
As part of the project, three substations (TS1, TS3, TS4) will be modernized, one substation (TS2) will be decommissioned, and related upgrades to high- and low-voltage distribution networks will be carried out. “Modernization includes eight 22/04kV transformers, reducing the total number of transformers from 13 to 10, and decreasing installed capacity from 11 MVA to 7.8 MVA. This, along with the installation of transformers with reduced no-load and short-circuit losses and changes in topology, determines the analyzed benefits of the modernization,” stated Tomáš Prášil.
The energy assessment predicts a reduction in transformer energy losses of 287 MWh/year, equating to savings of over 65 percent. All savings will be realized through reduced electrical consumption.
The entire investment is divided into two phases. The first phase began in mid-2021 and will continue until mid-2022, costing CZK 13.6 million. The second phase will run from mid-2022 until June 30, 2023, and will cost CZK 10.8 million.
