Blog Smart Roof Tile Packaging Line for Bramac

Motor Jikov Fostron a.s., a manufacturer of single-purpose machines and equipment and a subsidiary of the MOTOR JIKOV GROUP holding, designed, produced, and commissioned a fully automated line for Bramac, a global roof material producer. The packaging line handles stacking and packing up to 130 roof tiles per minute.

"From a design perspective, we focused primarily on the handling of tile bundles and entire pallets at the required cycle. Developing grippers for various tile types was also crucial. Additionally, we developed special machines for inserting separators and puncturing foil," explains Jiří Hrabánek, Project Manager of the Single-Purpose Machines Division.

The design work and manufacturing of the entire packaging line, covering an area of 20×50 m, were completed within six months by the team from the České Budějovice division of the Single-Purpose Machines. The subsequent installation and commissioning took another three months.

The contract also included the delivery of traveling cranes, conveyors, and other special machines and equipment, including arrangements for equipment from foreign manufacturers. The line's operation requires 13 servo drives with power outputs from 2.5 to 37 kW, 23 asynchronous motors (small power up to 3 kW), and additional pneumatic components located in grippers, infeed chutes, and other parts. Central control is managed by Simotion D445-2 with Sinamics S120 (booksize) power units with CU320-2 PN, and for motor control, Sinamics G120C frequency converters are used. The servo drive power is supplied by a 55 kW SLM power supply, eliminating the need for braking resistors. Siemens supplied the servo motors with gearboxes from Stoeber and Flender, along with asynchronous motors. Industrial PC IPC 427C with Simatic WinAC software ensures operational safety and visualization.

"This year, we installed and commissioned the packaging line in a newly renovated space at the customer's site. It was necessary to ensure communication between all control systems of this new technology so that individual operations flow smoothly. Given the size of the workplace, we recommended several control panels, logically distributed along the entire line. This significantly simplifies operation and positively impacts production efficiency," states Miroslav Kníže, Director of the Single-Purpose Machines Division at MOTOR JIKOV Fostron a.s. He added that the packaging line is designed to be modifiable anytime according to changing customer requirements, whether in terms of mechanics, hardware, or software.

In 1991, the Austrian company BRAMAC DACHSYSTEME INTERNATIONAL GmbH Pochlam established a joint venture with the LATER Chrudim joint-stock company. The resulting subsidiary, BRAMAC spol. s r.o., based in Prague, has been manufacturing high-quality Alpine roof tiles in its Chrudim plant since April 1992, available in four harmonious colors. In October 1993, the partners acquired another manufacturing plant in Olbramovice, Moravia, where Moravian tiles production began. In September 1994, the company opened a sales warehouse in Písek. Since 1996, the sole shareholder has been the Austrian company BRAMAC DACHSYSTEME INTERNATIONAL, GmbH.
