The record is held by a Škoda Octavia powered by compressed natural gas (CNG). The crew covered 1700 kilometers on a single tank, making it the longest distance ever driven by a stock Octavia. During this record-breaking trip, the Škoda Octavia Style 1.4 TSI G-TEC averaged just 0.74 Czech crowns per kilometer when driving on CNG, and 1.4 crowns per kilometer on gasoline.
MOTOR JIKOV GROUP has been favoring vehicles with CNG propulsion in its corporate fleet for years, purchasing nine G-Tec models since their market launch last year. "This year, we will add another two Octavias to our fleet. Next year, we plan to acquire five to six vehicles powered by CNG. We speak from experience when we say that companies can save hundreds of thousands, or even millions of Czech crowns annually, with a CNG fleet and their own refueling stations," emphasized Jiří Slíva, Director of the Division for Special Machining and Manufacturing at MOTOR JIKOV Strojírenská a.s. MOTOR JIKOV Strojírenská offers a complete range of CNG refueling stations, from small home units to corporate and large public stations.
The record-breaking journey started at a station in Prague 6, where both tanks were filled. The Octavia traveled almost to Rostock on CNG; the gas ran out after 531 km. The trip continued on gasoline. The crew overnighted in Copenhagen on the first day, then in a place near Oslam on the second day. Only after another 1169 km did the Octavia finally stop in the challenging ascent near Alvdal, marking a total distance of exactly 1700 km on a single tank. These figures were recorded in the database of the Museum of Records and Curiosities Pelhřimov as the longest distance traveled by a stock ŠKODA Octavia. Upon refilling both tanks, it was found that the car used 15.152 kg of gas and 50.51 liters of gasoline. This results in an average consumption of 2.85 kg CNG per 100 km and 4.32 liters of gasoline per 100 km.
The trip was made using a standard ŠKODA Octavia in the Style trim level, with no modifications. Unlike purpose-built eco-marathons aimed at minimal consumption, this journey reflects real-world conditions. A two-member crew with a reasonable amount of luggage traveled in the vehicle. Therefore, the measured values can be considered realistic and practically achievable, for example, on vacation trips.
