Blog MOTOR JIKOV is helping to solve issues for Scania's supplier.

The Pressure Casting Division of MOTORU JIKOV Slévárna a.s. is providing solutions to the problems faced by a German supplier for the Swedish truck manufacturer Scania. “Initially, we were approached with a request for assistance with machining cooperation. This resulted in transferring the mold after its lifecycle from the current supplier and utilizing the craftsmanship of our Czech artisans—striving to do our best, we supplied 800 units per week from the refurbished mold,” said Tomáš Prášil, Director of Project Management at MOTORU JIKOV Group a.s. MOTOR JIKOV is doing everything possible for its new customer IMI Group and the end customer Scania.

The goal is to assist our new client, who manufactures the intake throttle valve for Scania engines. MOTOR JIKOV has been nominated for the new generation, with the first prototype series tooling approaching. Full-scale ramp-up is planned for 2021-2022. Until then, the first generation is in use, facing significant challenges posed by the current German supplier.

“The prototype testing was successful, completed on schedule and on time. Despite extensive repairs, the overall condition of the tooling is not ideal, and we anticipate a defect rate of up to 30%. The customer will need to order a new mold if they want comprehensive support within the required timeframe,” added Tomáš Prášil.
The die - casting - workpiece is among the more complex and demanding from a quality and precision perspective. “This is the right challenge. I would like to thank colleagues from MOTORU JIKOV Fostron, the Single-Purpose Machinery division, for creating the new pressing equipment and pressing tools in record time,” emphasized the project management director.

Scania is experiencing record-breaking order volumes, with a lead time of six to seven months for a new truck. While the supply chain is doing its best, it’s not enough. “The volume increase is significant but planned; depending on the components, it’s up to twenty percent. Some may have doubted this, as certain suppliers are not prepared for such a surge for various reasons. But MOTOR JIKOV has proven that it is ready to help,” noted Tomáš Prášil.
