MOTOR JIKOV GROUP takes pride in being a socially responsible company. One of the pillars of its corporate responsibility is ecology and environmentally friendly behavior. A portion of investments is regularly allocated to energy savings through efficient resource utilization and activities with a positive impact on nature. The primary goal is to reduce pollution and preserve natural heritage through our own activities, or even enhance it. We participate in projects that align with these principles. One such initiative is the installation of a new filtration system for the extraction and filtration of flue gases from melting furnaces in the MOTOR JIKOV Pressure Casting Division MOTORU JIKOV Slévárna a.s. The total cost of the project amounts to approximately twelve million CZK.
"From the very first days of activating the filtration unit, measurements by an external company proved the device's functionality, well below the pollution limits set by law. Additionally, the work environment for the foundrymen has slightly improved—lower temperatures in the melting shop, cleaner air, and a clearer material flow layout throughout the facility," emphasized Roman Pospíšil, Director of the MOTORU JIKOV Slévárna a.s. Pressure Casting Division.
The installed ventilation system is designed to extract, filter, and vent hot air (flue gases) generated during the melting of aluminum alloys in melting furnaces. These gases are captured above the melting technology (furnaces), transported via ducts to the filter unit, which contains fabric filters ensuring very low dust concentrations in the exhaust gases. These gases are then released through a chimney into the atmosphere.
"Part of the entire project involved dismantling the original unit located in the foundry area of the pressure casting shop, carrying out construction work to install the new equipment on a structure built outside the pressure casting area, thus saving space within the foundry. The installation process included fitting the filter unit and necessary accessories, including the installation of a hood above the cleaning space of the central melting furnace Striko Westofen. Additionally, we built a roof over the cost ramp to expand the interior space of the foundry and developed a small loading ramp for handling aluminum alloys," described Roman Pospíšil.
Last year, a technical fault in the regulation damper of the original filtration unit in the foundry caused a fire. "Based on this damage and the unsatisfactory technical condition, it was decided to replace this unit with a new device fully compliant with legal standards and the needs of a modern pressure casting operation," clarified the director of the Pressure Casting Division MOTORU JIKOV Slévárna a.s.
The general contractor for the project was the České Budějovice-based company David servis, with technology supplied by Noem holding. Construction work began in March of this year, technology installation started in June, trial operation was launched mid-August 2019, and the final inspection along with handover to operation took place in the last week of August 2019, meeting the planned project schedule.
